Urbex

The Beautifully Forgotten

Urbex

This was taken at one of the most interesting locations I’ve had the chance to explore. This morning I was looking through some older shots & coming across this one really made me happy. Exploring & photographing abandoned places is something I truly love. I have a tight-knit circle who not only love doing this but have become dear friends to me in the process.

The unconventional quality of urbex is one of the things I enjoy most. I love taking pictures of places & things that many overlook. The solitude of walking through empty places is priceless. The ‘not knowing’ of what amazing things may be waiting inside a crumbling building is a rush all of its own.

So, for those who are also urbexers, you understand the draw these places have. For those who aren’t…well I’m sure there is something that you find interesting too. Cheers.

Oozing worlds and abandoned buildings

LEXIQUETTE

ONCE upon a time, I rang this artist’s doorbell for an interview, only to be greeted with the standard double kiss and a very modest: “I haven’t really timed my day well and we need to go pick up my laundry”. So off we went, lugging back a rucksack big enough to fit a child in and a plastic bag with drenched clothes, result of the typical broken drying machine. Daily chores completed, I was ushered through his living space/studio apartment as we made our way to the building’s series of outdoor balconies and fire escapes that merged into a 3-storey central courtyard. This infrastructure, neglected by most Montreal landlords, had been entirely invaded by artists. Tags, throw-ups, murals, dingy couches and sealed-off doors covered every inch of available surface.
